Knut
Terraformer (Hydra Head)
Knut, Terraformer, Hydrahead
While their homeland may be officially neutral, the members of Swiss metalcore quartet Knut are some belligerent motherfuckers. On their third long-player, Knut (Mr. Gingrich wishes to remind you that the K is not silent) sounds just as angry as it did when it was formed in 1994. The members have learned a few things from their Hydrahead labelmates, balancing some of their more feral moments with the kind of minimalist, crushingly heavy riffs that Isis specializes in. Still, Terraformer’s emphasis is on the rhythm section’s brutal math thrash and vocalist Didier, who violates the Geneva Convention with every scorched-earth howl.
