Knut - "Challenger"
Hydrahead Records (2002)
Genre: Noisecore
Similar bands: Deadguy

This band is a perfect example for all of you music fans who give us sub-genre overload. The simple truth of it is that, in Europe, Knut is hardcore and in the US, they would be considered metal or metalcore. They're a musical mulatto. "Challenger" is technical, it's thrashy, and it's good. Unfortunately, this style that was once recognized and loved for its innovativeness has been done to death. Knut is most likely one of the fist to do this totally technical, part-driven type of metal that almost never flows (it's not supposed to). Knut could be compared to label mates, Keelhaul. "Challenger" is one long climax with no rise or fall, it is more chaotic and purposely unorganized than anything I have ever heard. If you are a musician, you definitely will appreciate the talent that Knut delivers on this CD. If you aren't, it's good background music because at some point it morphs from music into noise - but sometimes thats not a bad thing. Just buy it and do something with it because it is good.
