Who's to say why I can listen to the all out assault of Challenger, while equally caustic bands like Hiretsukan send me to the chemists for pain reliever. There's some undetectable element that makes this bombastic dissonance far more preferable than another. Most likely, Knut have experimented with and perfected the tonality to a point of being abrasive but still enjoyable. Ironically, the most annoying song is the semi-acoustic "58.788." The one designed to offer a break from the mayhem. So nondescript that it could have been Love & Rockets for all I knew. The quiet repetition went unanswered by vocals at a time they could have carried an intelligible message.

The disturbed mess of "Whacked Out" has jagged tones that ring in your head. Meanwhile the rattling bass scrambles your yarbles. If you've got any yarbles. The confusing rhythms on "Repressed" give you a neck-ache for wondering where it's coming from and where it's going. The lead screamer's roar sounds like the jet engine in a Neubauten deconstruction. "El Niño" has the guitars frantically searching for an exit underneath. The secret may be the tension they create. In a genre not known for mental stimulation, this gets your synapses shooting off like a teenaged boy at a peep-show.
