"Challenger"
CD/LP

DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY ( continued ii )

While the faster stuff on here may inherently seem more violent or threatening based solely on its speed and viciousness, the slower songs are like a concrete block crashing down on the top of your head. The songs are violent like the ocean is violent, delivering big, devastating crashes that you know are coming but can't do anything about. Trying to deny the heaviness of Knut is an exercise in futility. "Harmless" contains pounding guitars that are like low, rumbling thunder. The following song, "58.788," is a slow yet still threatening instrumental with dueling acoustic guitars and feedback. Challenger closes with the 14-minute epic "March," which builds and builds and builds like a dam about to flood until it finally breaks at six minutes into the song when lead vocalist, Didier, unleashes a blood-curdling scream.

Having been around since 1994, Knut isn't a newcomer to the hardcore game, but the band is new to most American fans. Like I've already said, this is a band that cannot be ignored. Their brand of slow, heavy destruction isn't as widely replicated as other hardcore styles. Hopefully Knut will catch on and will be unleashing their evil-core fury in a town near you.
