KNUT
Challenger (Hydra Head)
Hailing from France, Knut (pronounced "kanoot", by the way: maybe one day I'll learn to say Knut, Zao and Nasum properly but I doubt it) have been making people stand up and take note for some time now with their modern, angular and aggressive sound. Truly peerless, these guys are one of the heaviest bands around right now. The vocals are a tortured scream, on about who knows what: song titles like "El Niño", "Neon Guide" and "58.588" don't help a damn bit. Their down-tuned, crashing, repetitive metallic hardcore is without reference point, perhaps the reason why they aren't more popular in metal circles. Knut have a very ugly, dissonant and noisy sound, one that exorcises all the hate and disgust inside your worthless body. A totally worthy mix of technical metal and underground metalcore, delivered within the usual classy packaging from Hydra Head, a label that's getting even better, yet more reclusive, over time.
