KNUT - "Challenger" LP/CD
Chrome Saint Magnus / Hydra Head

Mo-ther-fu-cker. This record is beyond heavy. I love the rare occasions when you literally have to struggle to get through the whole record. You have to work your way through the songs, get to know them, their evils, their twists and turns, and at all time you have to stay focused and on guard. This record will hit you like a hammer in the head, and you'll love it.

I must admit that before the arrival of this brandnew record, it had been a while since I last listened to KNUT, even though I'm a huge fan of their 1999 full-length debut "Bastardizer", and their live performances always astonished me. When I think of it, KNUT could very well be the most dense, tight and precise post-hardcore noise/metal whatever band in Europe. "Challenger" reminds me of what these Swissevarians are capable of. It is also clear what evolution they have made. "Bastardizer" and the 3-song MCD I have, offered relentless heavy slugs and each song was sledgehammer in its own right. "Challenger" however is more of a sonic experience, an ebb and flow, waves - sea kind of thing. An opus, if you will, that perfectly unites the KNUT of old, with a newer NEUROSIS-esque approach.
