Challenger (Hydra Head)
These guys should spell there name like "Knüt" with the little dots. That would be awesome. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Knut (or Knüt, as I like to call them), they are a Swedish metal band that made waves in the European hardcore world for a while before singing to Hydra Head for this latest release. Knut definitely has a lot of energy and it comes through well on the recording. The sound is very reminiscent of the Dillinger Escape Plan. I know I compare every metal band to them but these guys have finally pulled it off. They are tight, talented, passionate, and energetic. This is one of the few metal CD's I can actually sit back and enjoy. I get a lot of crappy hardcore CD's from bands that do nothing but bark over strained guitars and rapid fire drums beats. Knut actually put some thought into their songs, making them complicated and completely enjoyable. Underneath the screaming lies a talented rhythm section that pulls the music together and keeps it from becoming at all repetitive. If you are sick of the chug-a chug-a metal that is flooding the market nowadays, check these guys out.
