Swiss foursome Knut are out to prove that the US does not have the monopoly on chaotic noisy hardcore through bands like Botch and the Dillinger Escape Plan. This full-length debut is actually four years old, originally released on the band's own label back in 1998 but only now picked up for wider distribution. Knut's bleak and fractured sounds borrow heavily from now-defunct Nottingham sludge merchants Fudge Tunnel and the aforementioned Botch and, despite at times aping that classic Melvins-like trait of seemingly trying to achieve complete unlistenability, patience is eventually rewarded on gems like 'Descent' with its endless hypnotic staccato riffing. Guaranteed to make you look like a tourette's sufferer on speed if you try and dance to it, mind.
